Review: Gillette Fusion Flexball Razor

Thanks to pinchme.com.au, I recently received the newest razor from those crazy shaving experts over at Gillette. The Gillette Fusion flexball razor is the latest in shaving technology. It features the new Flexball, a unique pivoted head than moves to the contours of your face.

Already, this looks fancier than any razor I’ve used before. I used razors from a monthly subscription service called Dollar Shave Club, and they do quite a good job!
Anyway, it had been a few days since my last shave, so the Gillette had its work cut out for it!

I decided to go about this review as a comparison between my regular razor and the Gillette model.

I decided to use the Gillette on the right hand side of my face, and my regular Dollar Shave Club razor on the left. I started with the Gillette, and while there was considerably less tug than what what I was used to, I found myself having to go over the same area multiple times. I didn’t really get the point of the Flexball movement in the head. I guess my face is quite round, without much in the way of crevices or edges. I guess the Flexball would come in handy if you were shaving Rocky Dennis from “Mask”s face, but not for my big old moon face!
Both razors feature an edging blade on the back of the razor, and they both did a decent job.

After I had finished the shave and applied my post-shave balm, I went into my wife to hear her verdict. After she felt both sides of my face, she and I agreed that my regular razor gave a much closer, smoother shave. However, in the days that followed, I noticed that the regrowth from the Gillette side of my face was much softer and less irritating than I was used to.

Fusion Proglide Razor with Flexball Technology:
Pros:

  • Less pull.
  • Flexball means less strain when getting awkward areas
  • Lightweight design

Cons:

  • Shave isn’t as close as it could be.
  • Replacement blades can be $$$.
  • Had to shave over some areas multiple times.

Overall: If you can afford it, then this is a very good razor. However, there are plenty out there on the market that can do just as good a job, if not better. If you have a razor that you are happy with, then stick with it. Whilst this razor did an okay job, it certainly wasn’t anything to write home about.

It always amazes me how much they charge for a replacement blade, one reason I now have a beard 🙂
